In your face, Iowa! USA Today readers vote MN State Fair the nation's best

Move over Iowa, your time is up.

The wonderful, intelligent readers of USA Today and 10Best have voted for what they think is the "Best State Fair" in the country – and Minnesota came out on top.

There will no doubt be tears in Des Moines at the news, given that the Iowa State Fair is arguably America's most famous and regularly ranks first in similar tables.

But fresh off another phenomenally successful fair, Minnesota is now giving its rival down the road a run for its money.

USA Today says the Great Minnesota Get-Together is notable for its scale, drawing around 1.8 million visitors to the 320-acre fairground at St. Paul every year, and praised it for its "exceptional customer service and integrity."

Iowa meanwhile was noted for its famed past, serving as the inspiration for 1932 Phil Stong book "State Fair" as well as Broadway musicals and movies. It also featured in the book "1,000 Places to See Before You Die" (though maybe Minnesota will make future editions now).

Last month's State Fair saw the fourth highest total attendance on record, with 1.779 million people passing through the gates, just down on the all-time record 1.824 million who attended in 2014.
