Jeff Bridges has got movie fans excited by appearing in a teaser video as arguably his most beloved character: "The Dude."
While Bridges has gone on to win an Oscar in the period since, it's still his 1998 portrayal of "The Dude" (or "his Dudeness, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing") for which he's best remembered.
The movie from Minnesota's Coen Brothers has developed a fervent cult following over the years, and now it looks like fans could be in for some more bowling-related hilarity.
The teaser video posted by Bridges on Thursday morning was accompanied by the message: "Can’t be living in the past, man. Stay tuned."
A tumbleweed then rolls past in the video with the date: 2.3.19.
If you're not aware, that's the date of the Super Bowl, which suggests that one of the commercials on Super Bowl Sunday could be a trailer for a "Big Lebowski" sequel.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. There has been nothing to suggest that a sequel was in the works, even though John Turturro has for years tried to get the Coens interested in a follow-up focused on his character, Jesus Quintana.
And while fans can hope that's what it means, it could just as easily be a regular Super Bowl commercial that happens to feature "The Dude."
As Scott Wampler of Birth, Movies, Death points out, last year Danny McBride appeared in a Super Bowl "trailer" that suggested a sequel was coming to the "Crocodile Dundee" series.
But it was, in actuality, just an ad for Australian tourism.
If it is a "Lebowski" sequel, the Coens sure as heck better bring Sam Elliott back too.
