It's becoming a rite of passage that if you make news headlines during the day, Jimmy Kimmel is going to call you out that same evening.

On Wednesday it was Garrison Keillor's turn, with Kimmel shooting on the Prairie Home Companion host following his firing from Minnesota Public Radio for "inappropriate behavior."

"Can you imagine being fired from MPR? It's like having your library card revoked," Kimmel joked, before going on to make a quip about the 75-year-old Anoka native's appearance.

"It's all very confusing because you look at a guy like Garrison Keillor and you think, this is a guy who can have any woman he wants."

Kimmel wasn't the only Jimmy taking a shot, though Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon's crack was aimed more squarely at President Trump.

"Radio host Garrison Keillor was also fired today," he said. "They’re just the latest in a long line of famous men to lose their jobs for inappropriate sexual behavior. Or as one guy put it, (Trump impression) ‘Is it hot in here? It’s getting hot, right? It feels like super hot? Like really, really hot?’"

Keillor described the alleged incident with a colleague on A Prairie Home Companion as a misunderstanding, saying he was trying to console a woman by placing his hand on her back.

He told the Star Tribune that the woman's shirt was open and his "hand went up about 6 inches." He then says she recoiled, he apologized, he sent her an email of apology later and she replied that she had forgiven him.

"We were friends," he wrote. "We continued to be friendly right up until her lawyer called."

In a statement on his website, he expressed his gratitude for all the years he worked on A Prairie Home and The Writer's Almanac.

"It's some sort of poetic irony to be knocked off the air by a story, having told so many of them myself, but I'm 75 and don't have any interest in arguing about this," he added.

But he seemed more resentful about his situation in a comment post on his Facebook page Wednesday evening, which he has since removed.

"It’s astonishing that fifty years of hard work can be trashed in a morning by an accusation. ... Only a friend can hurt you this badly. I think I have to leave the country in order to walk around in public and not feel accusing glances.”
