Twin Cities actor Josh Hartnett is among the stars making an appearance in the first full-length trailer for the upcoming Showtime horror series "Penny Dreadful," The Wrap reports.

Hartnett is billed as one of the lead actors in the series, which is described as a "frightening sexual thriller" by the cable network. The trailer – filled with suggestive imagery and disturbing content – is attracting buzz from all over the web, including notices from such sites as Indie Wire, Deadline Hollywood and the Huffington Post.

Hitfix says the trailer – which is too risque and bloody to show here – shows Victorian London psychic Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) inviting Ethan (Hartnett) and Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) to "a shadow world full of sex, drugs and monsters of all sorts."

Among the monsters in the series are such literary icons as Frankenstein's monster and Dracula, and Oscar Wilde's age-defying creation Dorian Gray.

The series, created by screenwriter John Logan ("The Aviator," "Gladiator" and "Skyfall") is set to debut May 11, Hitfix says.

Some of the footage in the new trailer – minus the suggestive content and blood – can be seen in the abbreviated teaser video below.
