Duluth is bracing for a one-of-a-kind music battle this weekend as regional bands will get together and make music with washboards, saws, pots and pans among other household items.

The 19th annual Battle of the Jug bands in the Canal Park area will feature eight to 10 regional bands making their special kind of music with those unusual instruments and sounds.

The competition brings together some talented, creative folks who find unique ways to construct and play instruments. One man tells the Duluth News Tribune he's building a guitar using a bed pan.

What's at stake is the travel Yid-wegian Krumkake Iron, which is a Norwegian cookie iron. The runner-up is promised some locally caught fish.

Here's a clip from last year 's competition:

Day one of the battle starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Amazing Grace Cafe in Duluth. The event continues at 1 p.m. Sunday.
