KARE's Huppert wins 2 National Edward R. Murrow Awards

KARE-TV reporter Boyd Huppert was on the list of winners of the 2013 National Edward R. Murrow Awards Wednesday announced by the Radio Television Digital News Association, the Pioneer Press reports.

The awards, given annually by the RTDNA, recognizes exceptional work by radio, television and online news organizations.

Huppert won two Murrow Awards. In the large market television feature reporting category (along with KARE photojournalist Jonathan Malat), he was honored for his "Land of 10,000 Stories" segment "Neighborhood of Love," about six couples married for more than 50 years who live on the same Elk River block.

He was also honored in the large market television writing category, for the compilation of "Neighborhood of Love," "Nada" and "A Precarious Place."

Huppert will accept the Murrow Awards -- his ninth and 10th -- at an Oct. 14 ceremony in New York City.

Other local Murrow Award winners named Wednesday include Minnesota Public Radio for large market website and Minneapolis-based Public Radio International for investigative reporting, for "The State Integrity Investigation. The Star Tribune online was also honored in the overall excellence and news documentary categories.
