Famed actor-musician Kris Kristofferson is being honored for his Scandinavian heritage, The Associated Press reports.

Located in Minot, N.D., the Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame honors people of Scandinavian descent "who have achieved greatness in their fields of endeavor and/or whose efforts have contributed significantly to the betterment of mankind," according to the hall's website.

In addition, the hall says, "Deserving individuals of other ethnicities may be honored with special awards as well."

A native of Brownsville, Texas, Kristofferson has starred in such films as "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," "A Star is Born" and more recently, the "Blade" trilogy, "Joyful Noise" and "Deadfall."

Other inductees in the hall this year include businessman Keith Johanneson and the Nelson Family of "Ozzie and Harriet" TV and music fame.

Last year's inductees included "Transformers" film star Josh Duhamel, who is a native of Minot.

The Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame induction ceremony is Oct. 2.
