Le Sueur will be the most festive place in Minnesota this weekend

Cambria's spectacular Christmas lights display is one of the biggest in the state.

What's happening?

Kitchen and bathroom countertop maker Cambria is having its 14th annual Christmas Lights Extravaganza at its processing facility in Le Sueur on Saturday.

Plant employees and community members are invited to the event, where they'll find Santa and Mrs Claus, food, drinks, reindeer, carolers and gifts.

And, of course, Christmas lights.

How many lights?

A whole lot, with Cambria's million-square-foot manufacturing plant festooned with no fewer than 437,152 red and white bulbs.

Add to that 2,700 lighting strands and a 60-foot-tall Christmas tree on the roof that itself has 25,000 light bulbs, then it's arguably going to be the most festive place in Minnesota.

How did this come about?

Sibling rivalry.

As Cambria CEO Marty Davis told the Mankato Free Press, the Davis family – which owns Cambria and Davisco Foods – started adding lights displays to its Le Sueur facility shortly after opening in 1993, as a peace offering to local residents unhappy with the noise and traffic.

It then grew to the point that five Davis brothers competed to have their own spectacular lights display at Davis-owned plants across southern Minnesota, Idaho and South Dakota.

"My mother started judging it, so we had a competition develop after that," Marty Davis told the newspaper.

Now it's an annual tradition in Le Sueur where, according to a press release from Cambria, it's "become a point of pride for employees as they see their hard work come to fruition when the lights are turned on."

When can I see them?

The processing facility is located off of Hwy. 169 just north of Le Sueur in southeast Minnesota.

The holiday celebration will be held on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and then the lights display will run through Jan. 8.
