Live in Winona? You're getting a free Squarespace site for a year

It's a "thank you" for the Winona Super Bowl ads.

The "Welcome to Winona" Super Bowl ads are the gift that keeps on giving — for the city of Winona, as it turns out.

The ad series from Squarespace features actress Winona Ryder visiting the city she was born in (and named for) to create a website based on the pictures she takes around town:

In response to the popular ads, Visit Winona — the town's tourism arm — released its own website, "Welcome To The Rest of Winona," featuring some photos of the city that aren't quite as, well, gritty as those picked for Ryder's site.

And now, as a "thank you" to the southeastern Minnesota city, Squarespace is "gifting the residents of Winona with a comped website for one year," according to a news release.

"Squarespace is grateful to the town of Winona for joining in on this creative journey, and we want to give back to the place that has already given so much," the release says.

"We hope this will provide a platform for the people and places that make up Winona, and support the small businesses and entrepreneurs who help the community thrive."

If you're a local and want to take the company up on its offer, here are the details from Squarespace:

  • Anyone over the age of 16 who lives in Winona is eligible to receive one free year of service from Squarespace on any of its annual plans, which includes a free domain.
  • Starting Monday, February 10, Winonans can visit either Blooming Grounds Coffee House locations to receive a unique code and instructions for how to get your website up and running. This offer will run for two months and end on April 10, 2020.
  • To help residents get up and running, Squarespace will be hosting a live webinar on how to get started building your website with Squarespace on Tuesday, March 10th at 4:00 PM CST. Those who want to sign up for the webinar can do so here.

Bottom line, the promotion starts Feb. 10 and ends April 10, so you have two months to launch your own (free) website.

In the meantime, you can check out Ryder's "Welcome to Winona" blog right here.
