Lizzo confirmed her status as the brightest star in American music right now after landing eight nominations for the 2020 Grammy Awards.

The "Good As Hell" singer, who is based out of Minneapolis, scooped more nominations than any other act, coming in ahead of fellow first-time nominees Billy Eilish and Lil Nas X, who got six each.

Lizzo has enjoyed a stratospheric rise in 2019, entering the national consciousness with her memorable tunes, witty lyrics, and eye-catching performances at events including the VMAs.

It culminated with a massive No. 1 smash, "Truth Hurts," which is up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Solo Performance at the Grammys.

She's also in the running for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album for Cuz I Love You.

While she's been around for several years now and is well known on the Twin Cities music scene, it's only been this year that she made her breakthrough globally, which is probably why she's up for the Best New Artist award.

The other nominations are for Best R&B Performance for "Exactly How I Feel" alongside Gucci Mane, and Best Traditional R&B Performance for "Jerome."
