Look up this weekend – there should be a pretty awesome meteor shower

The Perseids Meteor Shower will be at its peak.

Here's a reason to stay up late this weekend: there's going to be an awesome meteor shower.

As Space.com says, the Perseids Meteor Shower has been happening since July 17 and will last through Aug. 24. However, it'll be at its peak this weekend.

That means there will be about 80 meteors an hour, however there can be a lot more. Like last year's show saw between 150-200 meteors an hour.

And viewing should be pretty good Saturday evening because clear skies are in the forecast. Sunday night might not be as good because of clouds and rain.

Viewing tips

You'll want to get away from city lights. The less light pollution, the better.

Unfortunately, there will be a bright gibbous moon drowning out some of the show,

It also helps to find an open space so you can get a big, clear view of the sky. National Geographic recommends keeping your back to the moon to maintain the best night vision.
