Minnesota author Louise Erdrich has again been honored for her novel 'The Round House."

Over the weekend the Little Falls native was among the winners of an American Book Award presented to promote diversity in the country's literature, the Associated Press reports.

Set on a North Dakota reservation, "The Round House" tells of a teenager's coming of age after his mother is the victim of a violent crime. Her publisher, Harper Collins, says Erdrich's novel illuminates "the harsh realities of contemporary life in a community where Ojibwe and white live uneasily together."

"The Round House" has won other honors, including a National Book Award last year and a Minnesota Book Award.

The American Book Awards are presented by the Before Columbus Foundation, which gave out more than a dozen awards at a book fair in Miami over the weekend.

Erdrich has written more than a dozen novels. She's a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa and owns a Minneapolis store called Birchbark Books.
