Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve sports A Bar of Their Own shirt during WNBA Finals
The Minnesota Lynx grabbed a win in Game 4 on Friday night, forcing the WNBA Finals to a winner-take-all Game 5 in New York on Sunday.
However, it wasn't just a thrilling, back-and-forth contest that caused cheers at one Minneapolis bar. During the game, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was seen sporting a shirt from A Bar of Their Own, Minnesota's first sports bar dedicated to women's sports.
"We are deceased. ," the bar posted on social media. "Thank you Coach Reeve for rocking your ABOTO shirt during the biggest game of the year. LFG."
Reeve, recently named the AP's WNBA Coach of the Year, didn't just wear the shirt, though. She also discussed the bar during her post-game press conference as she talked about the growth of women's sports and the team's support throughout the state.
“All the TVs have the games on, and the volume on and the place is going crazy," she said of the bar. "Obviously I appreciate the opportunity A Bar of Their Own has given women and making that front and center, and I'm happy to support women-owned businesses like that."
The bar, owned by Jillian Hiscock, opened in March at 2207 E Franklin Ave., just in time to bear witness to a massive year for women's sports in Minnesota.
PWHL Minnesota (now the Chill) won the first-ever PWHL championship in May, Minnesotan women showed up in a massive way at the Summer Olympics, and now the Minnesota Lynx are one game away from a fifth WNBA crown.
Reeve isn't the first major sports figure to give love to the new bar. Billie Jean King stopped into the bar earlier this year. King, in addition to being a tennis icon, was instrumental in the launch of the PWHL.
Naturally, fans can catch Game 5 of the WNBA Finals at A Bar of Their Own on Sunday night.
