Macy's has confirmed the closure of its in-store Lakeshore Grill restaurants at two Twin Cities malls.
The retailer said that the restaurants at Macy's Ridgedale Mall, Minnetonka, and Southdale Center, Edina stores have now closed for good, saying it took the step as it is "continually evolving to meet our customer’s changing needs."
It comes amid a reduction in footfall to shopping malls amid the pandemic, as well as restrictions on capacity that remain in place for food establishments, with dine-in service also shut down for 3 months earlier this year as COVID-19 spread in Minnesota.
The restaurants have been staples of Macy's stores at both malls for decades – albeit under various names, with the Star Tribune noting they trace their lineage back to the original Dayton's store on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis.
"We are incredibly grateful for the loyal customers who have created wonderful memories with us at these locations over the last 42 and 29 years, respectively," a Macy's spokesperson said.
"Many of our customers’ favorite recipes—from its famous salads and everyday eats to sweets—are now available on macysrestaurants.com.
"We hope the community will continue the traditions they created at Lakeshore Grill by welcoming these recipes into their own kitchens."
Macy's announced in February, before the pandemic really took hold, that it was looking to close 125 stores nationwide in 2020, though further information on which stores are affected is still yet to be provided.
