Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and lasting through 5 a.m. Monday, Interstate 94 will be shut down for construction work between Interstate 394 and Interstate 35W.
Specifically, both directions of I-94 will closed from I-35W to I-394 and both directions of Hennepin Ave./Lyndale Ave. will be closed from Dunwoody Blvd. to Oak Grove St. until 5 a.m. Monday.
It's going to mean maddening delays for anyone getting around Minneapolis this weekend, and what's more, the closures will repeat for the two weeks after as well.
Drivers can still get in and out of downtown Minneapolis on 394, but detours will be needed in most cases.
35W to I-94 westbound detours
Go west on Hwy. 62 and use Hwy. 100 north to get to I-694 west, or stay on 35W and take it all the way to westbound I-694.
I-94 westbound detour
Go north on Hwy. 280 and then go west on I-694.
I-94 eastbound detours
Take eastbound I-694 to 35W south to Hwy. 280 south to get back on to I-94, use Hwy. 100 south to eastbound Hwy. 62 to get to 35W south.
The closure is needed so crews can repair the Irene Hixon Whitney pedestrian bridge that connects Loring Park and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, according to KSTP.
