Mall of America will be home to the sixth M&M's store in the world when it opens this weekend.
Candy giant Mars Wrigley is returning to its roots with its new 24,000 square foot M&M's store on the Bloomington megamall's first floor (east side) near the Rotunda on Mall of America on Saturday, May 1, a news release says.
One of the first Mars Family confectionery locations, called the Mars Candy Factory, opened in Minneapolis in 1920, with Mars Wrigley saying it's proud to return to its roots to introduce the M&M's store at Mall of America.
“M&M’S aims to inspire fans to find ways to connect with each other, all while creating better moments and more smiles,” said Patrick McIntyre, director of global retail at Mars Retail Group. “The new M&M’S Mall of America store champions the fun ways fans can connect with others – and you truly see this come together in the immersive experiences only the M&M’S Mall of America store offers.”
Those immersive experiences include "innovative firsts" for M&M's stores and are unique to Mall of America. They include "M&M's Sweet Moves" (people can express their "personality through color, sound and movement") and "Peanut Peak" (a rooftop celebration of local landscape inspired by Minnesota) in a store that's filled with "regional-specific decor."
And M&M store favorites will also be featured, including the personalization station, signature M&M's, the "Wall of Chocolate" and exclusive in-store merchandise.
“Offering new adventures and attractions to our guests has always been a part of our DNA,” Jill Renslow, EVP of business development for Mall of America, said. “M&M’S creative new experience opening at Mall of America is embracing Minnesota in an entirely unique way. Our millions of guests are certain to leave with a smile on their face."
The M&M's brand is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, and will mark the occasion with a new product, M&M's Mix, and a pop-up at MAll of America starting May 6.
Those who can't make it to the store can tour it virtually on MMS.com, where you can "walk" through the store and buy M&M's products via a 3D virtual experience.
The Mars Retail Group has previously launched M&M's stores in hugely visible tourist spots in some of the world's biggest cities – including in London's Leicester Square, Broadway in New York, the Las Vegas strip, and Shanghai.
