Just when we were all prepared to write off 2020, this happens.
Ok, 2020 has sucked beyond all measure, but there was something to celebrate for the cult followers of McDonald's elusive McRib sandwich.
That's because the popular sandwich will be making a temporary comeback to McDonald's restaurants in December.
The news was broken by the Twitter superfan account @McRibgate, which shared leaked documents showing McDonald's plans to bring back the McRib on Dec. 2, with the sandwich then phased out again in early January.
With the cat out of the bag, McDonald's came clean on Twitter Friday morning.
In a statement to Business Insider, McDonald's VP of menu innovation Linda VanGosen said: "The McRib has been a beloved menu item at McDonald's since its inception nearly 40 years ago.
"There's nothing quite like the taste of the McRib. To our customers, it's become more than a delicious, saucy moment… it's a season, and it's taking the internet by storm. That's why this year, we're proud to serve the McRib nationwide for everyone to enjoy."
The last time the McRib graced the McDonald's menu nationwide was in 2012, though it has returned in certain restaurants a handful of times since then.
