The Minnesota Film and TV Board is celebrating its 30th anniversary Thursday with a benefit, but one if its main guests will not be able to attend.

The board said Thursday that the event's scheduled guest actor, John Carroll Lynch, had to pull out of the celebration because of an emergency appendectomy.

The sold-out event -- which will celebrate the board's recent $10 million snowbate victory at the State Capitol -- is scheduled to take place at Olson's rooftop on top of the Ford Center in downtown Minneapolis.

"I am heartbroken at being unable to be there," said Lynch in a statement issued by the board. "I owe so much of my life's bounty to my time in Minnesota and to the film and TV board in particular. It was a great honor to have been included in the festivities."

Lynch said he was going to miss the view from the event, too, which looks over Target Field.

"Needless to say a rooftop party in Minneapolis sounds a LOT better than a hospital bed in Van Nuys. Best to all and to all involved in supporting the film and TV community in Minnesota," Lynch said.

Lynch has appeared in dozens of films, including the Minnesota-made productions "Grumpy Old Men" and "Beautiful Girls." In "Fargo" he played the easy-going Norm Gunderson, the husband of Brainerd-based Sheriff Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand).

The actor has also starred in such films as "Gran Torino," "Shutter Island" and "Crazy, Stupid, Love." On TV, he's appeared in such series as "Big Love," "K-Ville" and "Body of Proof."

The celebration Thursday night will honor founding supporters Sen. Richard Cohen, Upper MN Film Office director Riki McManus and board co-founder John Stout.
