Construction of a "third generation" Menards megastore in Apple Valley could begin next summer, according to company spokesperson Jeff Abbott.

The Pioneer Press reports that the City of Apple Valley approved a site plan and building permit for the new megastore, which will be located a block east of the current Menards at 14960 Florence Trail off of County Road 42.

The mega Menards will be 171,505 square feet, and come with a massive unheated garden (34,604 square feet) and a warehouse that's just shy of 49,000 square feet. It's a much bigger site, which means Menards will be looking to hire workers.

“The exact number has not been determined, but the new store will be nearly twice as big and probably result in creating about that many more new jobs," Abbott said in an email to Bring Me The News.

The current Menards store will remain open during construction, although the Eau Claire, Wisconsin-based retailer is actively seeking a buyer for the building.

"The old space is for sale and we’re working with a local developer on a redevelopment plan," says Abbott.
