Metallica playing US Bank Stadium the day after Luke Bryan

Day one: Luke Bryan.

Day two: Metallica.

The iconic band announced Wednesday morning they'll perform at U.S. Bank Stadium on Aug. 20, with Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat also on the schedule.

Tickets are on sale March 25 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. There will be a pre-sale for Fifth Members a few days earlier (details here).

Metallica's gig comes one day after country music star Luke Bryan's show, which will be the first concert at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The back-to-back shows will be part of what the Metallica announcement calls "opening weekend festivities" for the new stadium.

"We had such an amazing time playing in our hometown stadium the night before the Super Bowl that when asked we couldn’t say 'no' to another chance to be a part of a very special weekend, the opening of the brand new U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN!' the announcement says.

Metallica has been "lying low," as Rolling Stone put it, but drummer Lars Ulrich told the magazine it "will be a pretty in-your-face year, at least the back half of it," and noted the band needs to finish an album. Their most recent studio album was 2008's "Death Magnetic."

They haven't performed in Minnesota since October of 2009.
