An abrupt change to the State Fair's Tuesday night Grandstand show was announced just hours before the concert's start.
Michael McDonald will not appear with the Doobie Brothers for their 7:30 p.m. show, the fair announced. No reason was given for McDonald's sudden exit, but the fair said the remaining Doobie Brothers will perform as planned.
The Minnesota State Fair told Bring Me The News it had no additional information at this time.
The opening act, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, is also no longer scheduled to perform.
The last-minute news is sure to be a blow to Doobie Brothers fans, as McDonald was back touring with his longtime bandmates for the first time since 1995. On Aug. 26, he wrote: "It feels great to be out on the road with my old friends as part of the Doobie Bros. once again. I’ve always missed playing so many of these great tunes from their song book. It’s a privilege for me to get to take the stage with them once again for a whole tour."
The band had just kicked off its 50th anniversary tour on Aug. 22.
Neither McDonald nor the band had posted any State Fair show update on its social media channels as of 3:50 p.m.
