'Mighty Ducks' release date confirmed, Minneapolis spotted in new trailer
Gordon Bombay is back! Disney Plus announced Thursday that its Mighty Ducks reboot will debut on the streaming service on Mar. 26.
Unlike the famous 1992 movie however, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers will not be filmed in the State of Hockey, with production teams preferring the cheaper surrounds of Vancouver.
But Minneapolis is still where the series will be set, and the downtown skyline features briefly as the latest trailer shifts to the training facility of the new pee-wee hockey team that Emilio Estevez's Bombay will coach.
Called the "Ice Palace," it's like no building we've seen in Minneapolis so we're presuming the downtown backdrop has been digitally added.
The series will also feature the Gilmore Girls' Lauren Graham, who is the mother of a youth hockey player who gets thrown off the District 5 Ducks team.
Since Bombay's departure, his old Ducks team has become a state championship-winning leviathan – think Edina or St. Thomas Academy – prompting Graham's character to launch a new team for cast-off players, with Bombay the coach.
No word yet on whether there will be any appearances from familiar faces from the original Mighty Ducks series.
