First-time Minneapolis actor Barkhad Abdi is continuing to bask in his Academy Awards glory, this time at the annual Oscars nominees luncheon.

Celebrity blog Just Jared says Abdi, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as lead Somali pirate Muse in "Captain Phillips," mingled with fellow nominees at the event in Beverly Hills, California, Monday.

Abdi posed with "12 Years a Slave" Best Supporting Actress nominee Lupita Nyong'o for a photo inside the luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and also chatted with "August: Osage County" Best Actress nominee and three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep.

The actor also attended the "Nominees Night" party thrown by The Hollywood Reporter, the trade publication that featured that actor and Tom Hanks on its cover before "Captain Phillips" came out in October.

Abdi recently told the Los Angeles Times that the most overwhelming aspect of his "Captain Phillips" experience so far is the Oscar nomination.

"That really got to me. I didn't see that coming," Abdi told the Times. "It's just amazing, I'm really humbled by it. I want to thank the academy for their generosity.

The Times says Abdi is planning to move to Los Angeles this spring to continue acting, along with his friend Faysal Ahmed, who played the Somali pirate Najee in "Captain Phillips."

Abdi was also a guest on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last week, and the TV talker asked him about the most difficult part of learning to speak English after moving here from Somalia.

"You can't talk to a girl," Abdi said, drawing laughs from the studio audience. "It's a problem."

Kimmel replied, "I had that problem without the language barrier."

Abdi is planning on attending the 86th annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles March 2.
