A northeast Minneapolis bar has apologized for homophobic slurs allegedly made by one of its bartenders, who it's claimed mocked a customer by calling them a "f*g."

Mayslacks Bar and Grill, on 4th St. NE, came in for criticism over the weekend after Jordan Swanson, who witnessed the confrontation between the bartender and the patron on Friday night, posted about it on Facebook.

According to his post, his friend, who is gay, objected when the female bartender mocked another patron for crossing his legs while sitting down, allegedly saying: "Who does that f*g think he's kidding? You just know he sucks d**k."

On Sunday evening Mayslacks issued an apology on Facebook, saying it is "addressing the issue internally."

Swanson's friend Justin called the bartender out on her comments, asking her if she had a problem with him being gay, and attempted to explain how what she said was offensive.

But according to Swanson's post, she replied by calling him "retarded." Pleas to another bartender for help went unheard, the post says, before Justin was removed from the bar by bouncers at the bartender's request.

The bar's Facebook page has been inundated with negative reviews since the incident, with some commenters suggesting they had been abused by the same bartender before.

In another post he wrote after the initial reaction, Swanson said none of those involved condone threats or violence towards Mayslacks or their staff.

"The proper way to take this head on is to share and bring notice to any/all outlets. The public voice that this will not stand is more powerful than anything else. Do not stoop down to a lower level by discriminating or acting out violently."
