Minneapolis scouted as possible location for new TV series

Minneapolis is being considered as the location for the American adaptation of a hit British Broadcasting Corporation television series, the Star Tribune reports.

A British production crew was recently in the area scouting possible locations for "The Fall." The show will be based on the BBC series of the same name, which stars Gillian Anderson, pictured, above, from "The X-Files," and Jamie Dornan (who will play Christian Grey in the film adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey").

Minnesota Film & TV Board Director Lucinda Winter tells the Star Tribune that if Minneapolis lands the series, the production could spend as much as $8 million in the city.

Winter says "The Fall" would also be eligible for the state's Snowbate program, which uses rebates as incentives to get productions here.

The Star Tribune says American author A.M. Homes, who will script the adaptation of the show, accompanied the scouting crew.

According to Winter, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and New Haven, Connecticut, are also in the running for the production.

The British version of the show follows a detective, played by Anderson, on the trail of a serial killer, played by Dornan, in Belfast, Ireland.

In its review of "The Fall," the U.K. publication The Guardian called the show "one of the best BBC dramas in years."

While the TV show only airs on the BBC in the U.K., U.S. viewers can see it on Netflix, the New York Times said.
