Media personalities across the Twin Cities are defending under-appreciated movies that others perceive as bad, the Pioneer Press reports.

Called "The Defenders" series, the screenings happen at the Trylon Microcinema in Minneapolis.

The films have been hosted by the likes of Current DJs Steve Seel and Jennifer Neal, Minnesota Public Radio's Stephanie Curtis and former Fox 9 anchor Robyne Robinson, who screened films and defended the merits of their choices with audiences.

Twenty-six "Defenders" screenings have taken place so far. Pioneer Press film critic Chris Hewitt is up next with his pick Wednesday night.

Defenders creator Jim Brunzell tells the Pioneer Press that the titles of the movies aren't revealed in advance to the public. Generally, the movies screened must have earned a 50 percent rating or less on the movie critic aggregator RottenTomatoes.com.
