Minnesota Grammy nominees: A Kingdom but no Prince

21-year-old St. Paul rapper Allan Kingdom is a fresh face on this year's list of Grammy Award nominees. But a better-known Minnesota musical royal was left off the roster in what one publication considers a glaring omission.

Kingdom was nominated for his work with Kanye West on "All Day," which was nominated for both best rap performance and best rap song.

The Star Tribune notes that the Woodbury High School grad has already has already traveled with West to perform "All Day" at the Brit Awards and the Billboard Music Awards.

Kingdom is actually a Minnesota transplant from his birthplace of Winnipeg. It works the other way too, though, with some Minnesota natives who now live elsewhere also nominated.

As the Pioneer Press reports, those include Bob Dylan (two nominations, including his album of Frank Sinatra covers, "Shadows in the Night") and Windom native Maria Schneider (two nominations, including best large jazz ensemble album for "The Thompson Fields").

The late composer Stephen Paulus of St. Paul, who died after suffering a stroke last year, was nominated in three classical music categories. You can find the complete list of nominees here.

Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd were the most nominated performers, CNN reports.

As for who's missing from the list, USA Today says the biggest slights include Prince, whose "HITNRUN" is absent from the nominees. USA Today actually lumps Prince's omission in with that of another '80s icon, Madonna, as a tag-team snub.

Billboard, however, offered its own list of Grammy snubs which includes Carly Rae Jepsen and One Direction but makes no mention of Paisley Park.
