It's not often you hear wedding bells at the highest levels of government, but they'll be ringing in Minnesota soon.

Peggy Flanagan, lieutenant governor of Minnesota, is engaged.

This past week, her boyfriend, former MPR journalist Tom Weber, proposed to her during dinner and announced it on Facebook Sunday morning:

MPR says the two have been dating about a year and a half, and notes that both have been married previously (Flanagan has a young daughter from her first marriage).

Weber, a former host at the station, was reassigned in early 2018 after reporting to his superiors that he'd begun dating Flanagan, who at the time was running for office. The move was meant to avoid a conflict of interest.

He left MPR in June of that year and, according to the station, is now a consultant and working on a book about Minnesota history.

It's not yet clear if a wedding date has been set.
