Minnesota native reflects on Cinderella career as she prepares for Tony Awards

Minnesota native Laura Osnes says she really does feel like "Cinderella at the ball" in the days before 2013 Tony Awards, USA Today reports.

The publication recently followed Osnes, 27, as she shopped for gowns for the Tonys, where she's nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical for playing the title role in "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella."

Osnes -- who was born in Burnsville and graduated from Eagan High School -- recently won a Drama Desk Award for her portrayal.

The actress' latest Broadway success comes six years after she won the reality television series "Grease You're the One That I Want!" -- which led to her Broadway debut.

"I was one of the only contestants who didn't live in New York at the time. I had grown up doing theater in Minneapolis," Osnes tells USA Today. "I just packed up everything and moved. I was very lucky."

Since then, she's been heralded for her performances in the revivals of the musicals "South Pacific" and "Anything Goes," and she was nominated for a an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical last year for "Bonnie and Clyde."

No matter what happens at the Tonys Sunday, Osnes says she won't be leaving the role -- which she performs eight time a week -- anytime soon.

"I'm signed on with 'Cinderella' for a year; there's nothing else on the horizon yet," she tells USA Today. "I haven't done any new readings or gotten any offers. I'm just enjoying this, soaking up every second of it."

The 2013 Tony Awards air locally on WCCO-TV Sunday at 7 p.m.
