Minnesota State Fair 2019: Where can you grab the best cup of coffee?
Coffee may not be the first thing you seek out when you go to the fair. After all, the fried food, the next-big-thing-on-a-stick, and the shiny new foods get all the attention.
But seriously, have you seen the lines at the fairground coffee stands? Particularly in the morning. They may have the choice of every food under the sun, but fair-goers still need their cuppa joe.
There are many places to get a cup of black coffee, iced coffee, nitro coffee etc., with the Minnesota Farmers Union and the Salem Lutheran Church Hall (hello Swedish Egg Coffee!) among those that spring to mind.
But I went looking for more than that. I wanted a decadent, over-the-top coffee. This is the Minnesota State Fair, after all.
Here are some stand-out coffee options at the fair:
Mini Donut Latte – The Anchor Coffee House
Where to find it: Underwood Street & Carnes Avenue
The mini donut latte is delightful. You get the coffee, and you get the donut too.
And dare I say, the warm spices make me a bit excited for fall?
The verdict? Mini donut lattes should become a not-just-at-the-state-fair thing, and it's an added bonus of being one of the new fair foods for 2019.
Espresso Float – Java Jive
Where to find it: South side of West Dan Patch Avenue, between Liggett and Chambers streets
Espresso and ice cream is a delicious flavor combination – who knew?
In addition to espresso and chai floats, Java Jive has espresso ice cream malts, chai and matcha lattes, and all the traditional coffee shop espresso drinks.
Vietnamese Iced Coffee – Que Viet
Where to find it: East side of Cooper Street outside the Merchandise Mart
Que Viet advertises this as a “slow drip coffee with sweetened condensed milk."
It was delicious. Just sweet enough. Great coffee flavor. I’d definitely buy it again.
Verdict
So in the end, you could try any one of these three coffees and walk away feeling your money has been well spent.
The best part about getting coffee at the fair? The caffeine boost will give you energy to stay longer and do more of what makes you happy at the fair, whatever that may be.
You’re welcome.
