A Moorhead, Minnesota, teen got to play with his music idol at WE Fest over the weekend thanks to a little help from social media.
Dan Brekke, a country musician himself, has long idolized Brad Paisley, who was one of the headliners at WE Fest. The annual Detroit Lakes country music festival is considered one of the largest in the nation.
In the day leading up to Paisley's performance, Brekke's friend started a #letBrekkeplay hashtag on Twitter in attempt to get the country music star to meet the 18-year-old.
The hashtag took off – and Paisley's people noticed.
Hours before the show, one of the people working for Paisley sent Brekke a direct message on Twitter telling him he was going to meet the singer back stage, Brekke told Forum News Service.
But that wasn't it. Paisley also invited Brekke on stage and gave Brekke the chance to play a solo during his last song of the show.
“It has given me a whole new taste for something I already knew I wanted, but now I want it so much worse,” Brekke told Forum News.
Brekke is the frontman of the aptly named Dan Brekke Band, which frequently performs at Jasper's Theater in Park Rapids. Later this month, Brekke will perform at Pioneer Fest in Perham on Aug. 16 and the Tewauken Music Festival in North Dakota on Aug. 30.
