A dog found injured in a ditch is back with his owner after a social media appeal prompted a flood of well wishes and donations.

The Isanti County Animal Care & Control issued an appeal to find the owner of the dog after it was found injured just south of the Green Barn Garden Center on Hwy. 65.

Although stable and responsive, the pooch was "extremely bruised and swollen in both front legs and face," as well as having abrasions and having bitten his tongue.

He received treatment at the East Central Vet, with Animal Care & Control then posting its appeal not only to find the owner, but to help them out with their veterinary bills.

"It is evident that he is well cared for and we are searching for his owner. His family may not be able to afford vet bill - so donations paid directly to the vet are welcome," it said.

People opened their checkbooks to donate, lightening the load for the owner who came forward later on Thursday, and went to the vets to pick up their beloved pet and pay off what was left of the bill.

"The owner thanks you for your well wishes and donations towards his vet bill!" Animal Care said.  "Thank you to EVERYONE who shared his photo and made a reunion possible!"

Fortunately the dog is expected to make a full recovery, and a picture was later shared of the dog reunited with his family.
