Voting to give nicknames to eight snowplows in the Minnesota Department of Transportation's (MnDOT) fleet is underway now that the department has unveiled 50 options that were submitted by Minnesotans over the past two months.

In December, MnDOT announced that it was taking submissions to name one snowplow in each of its eight districts around the state. The result was nearly 24,000 submissions, which have been narrowed to a list of 50 finalists for public voting.

The finalists were chosen based on if they were "submitted frequently; names that would be easily identifiable and understandable to broad audiences; or those submissions that were particularly unique, creative or Minnesota-specific."

You can vote here between now and 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26

Sports-themed names definitely earned a spot in the final 50. More specifically, former Minnesota Twins players were turned into snowplow puns:

  • Joe Plow-er
  • Justin Moresnow
  • Kent Brrr-bek
  • Road Carew

If you were following MnDOT on Twitter when it announced the competition, you know there were a lot of people in favor of "Plowy McPlowFace," which is one of the 50 finalists.

Other standouts in the final 50 are "Edward Blizzardhands" and "Buzz Iceclear," not to mention "Plow Bunyan" and "Sir Plows A Lot."

The most Minnesotan of the finalists: "Ope, Just Gonna Plow Right Past Ya"

Sources tell Bring Me The News that "Glare Walsh" didn't make the cut because the plow would've only been capable of plowing the left lane.

The winning nicknames will be announced in early March.
