More acts coming to State Fair grandstand: Patti LaBelle, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Garrison Keillor

Some Minnesota State Fair veterans have been added to the grandstand lineup this year.

"A Prairie Home Companion" radio host Garrison Keillor and southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd will be returning to the grandstand stage this summer – and soul singer Patti LaBelle will also be performing.

This will be Keillor's 11th time performing at the grandstand. The Sept. 4 performance will be taped for radio broadcast that will air the next night. Tickets – priced at $25 and $32 – go on sale Friday at noon.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, known for hits "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird," is making its fourth appearance on the grandstand stage Sept. 3. Collective Soul will open for the group. Tickets – priced at $42 – go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

LaBelle, who is known for "Lady Marmalade" and "New Attitude," will take the grandstand stage Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. The Commodores, who performed at the fair in 1989, will open for the soulful singer. Tickets – priced at $45 – go on sale Friday at 11 a.m.

She's also performing at Mystic Lake Casino June 6, the Star Tribune reports.

The Great Minnesota Get-Together runs from Aug. 27 through Labor Day, Sept. 7. Here's a look at the grandstand schedule that's been announced for the 12-day fair thus far:

  • Aug. 27: Def Leppard (only VIP tickets available)
  • Aug. 29: Carrie Underwood (sold out)
  • Aug. 30: Alan Jackson (tickets $40 – on sale now)
  • Aug. 31: Happy Together Tour with the Turtles and other oldies acts (tickets $21 – on sale now)
  • Sept. 1: Meghan Trainor (tickets $35 – on sale now)
  • Sept. 2: Patti LaBelle
  • Sept. 3: Lynyrd Skynyrd
  • Sept. 4: Garrison Keillor
  • Sept. 7: Merele Haggard and Kris Kristofferson (tickets $35 – on sale now)

The last two Grandstand shows will be announced in the coming weeks, the fair says.

The new foods for 2015 will be announced in June, while new attractions and exhibits will be revealed in July, the fair notes.
