The most popular names for babies born in Minnesota last year have been unveiled by the U.S. Census Bureau, and the winners are Henry for boys and Evelyn for girls.
For the most part, the top five for boy and girl names in the state remained intact, although there were some changes in the back end of the top 10.
Top baby girl names in Minnesota 2018:
Olivia was in the top spot last year but drops a spot to make way for Evelyn, which moved up from No. 2 a year ago. Charlotte and Emma traded places from the 2017 rankings, and 5-10 are pretty much the same with the exception of Hazel entering the top 10. The only name to fall out of the top 10 from 2017 to 2018 is Eleanor.
Top baby boy names in Minnesota 2018:
The top four remain the same, but Henry jumped from third in 2017 into the top spot, knocking the 2017 leader, Oliver, into second place. Logan, Mason and Wyatt fell out of the top 10 and were replaced by Jack, James and Benjamin, which shot up from 14th to sixth.
Interestingly, Henry was not among the 10 most popular names for newborn boys in America in 2018, but was No. 1 in Minnesota. We like our Henrys, apparently.
