Movie theater chain is replacing CMX at Mall of America
B&B Theaters is opening its first Minnesota location later this month, moving into the vacant movie theater at the Mall of America.
The country's sixth-largest theater chain is assuming operations at the CMX Cinema, and will reopen as a B&B theater on May 27, a news release says.
"Our industry has been hit hard, and our hearts go out to operators that have been forced to close locations and to communities that have been left without theaters," B&B Theatres President and CEO Bob Bagby said in a statement. "This opportunity with Mall of America has been a source of excitement and optimism for us and seems a match made in cinema heaven as it continues to grow and expand its offerings through progressive partnerships and pioneering collaborations.”
B&B Theatres offer made-to-order food, including flatbreads, fried chicken sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, popcorn chicken, french fries and funnel cakes.
It also plans to open a bar later this summer, where it will serve wine, beer, spirits and signature cocktails, including weekly movie-themed drinks.
“We are thrilled to welcome B&B Theatres to Mall of America to help deliver our guests the ultimate cinema-going experience,” Jill Renslow, EVP of business development for Mall of America, said in the release.
"Much like Mall of America, B&B Theatres has remained agile and inventive in an industry that continues to evolve – all while keeping the guest top of mind. We can’t wait to once again welcome guests back to safely enjoy their favorite blockbusters on the big screen.”
B&B Theaters Bloomington 13 will open on the east side of level four at Mall of America on May 27. Tickets can be purchased here.
CMX Cinema only opened at the Mall of America in 2018, but had to close its operations in March 2020 due to the pandemic.
Following its exit from the Mall of America, it has two remaining Minnesota locations — in Rochester and Burnsville.
