New Burlington location opens in Minneapolis Friday

To celebrate, the company is donating $50,000 to a neighborhood group and nearby school.

Burlington's newest location on Minneapolis' East Lake Street opens Friday.

The off-price retailer said the grand opening celebration for the new store at 2124 E Lake Street (formerly a Savers) will be at 7:45 a.m. There will be prizes for the first couple days of operation.

On Friday, the first 100 adult customers will get a $5 coupon to use on a purchase. On Saturday, the first 500 customers get a free Burlington umbrella. 

Once open, this Minneapolis locations will be the 11th Burlington in the state.

The company is also making a $50,000 donation to the community. Half will go to students and teachers at the nearby South High School, via  AdoptAClassroom. The money will go toward purchasing classroom materials. The other half will be donated to the Lake Street Council nonprofit.

The new Burlington is located in the Hi-Lake Shopping Center, just a few blocks west of the 3rd Police Precinct that burned during the George Floyd unrest.

“We have all witnessed this city’s great resiliency and hope to be able to provide opportunities for area residents to continue to heal and rebuild through our partnerships with two locally based charitable organizations," said Michael O’Sullivan, CEO of Burlington Stores, in a news release. "We look forward to furthering our commitment as we become part of the fabric of the community.” 

Formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, the company is promising an  "updated, clean design," with a range of products including men's and women's apparel and accessories, kids' clothing, footwear, baby products, home décor and pet care.
