New North Loop cocktail bar to open with separate dive bar in back
Public Domain, a new Minneapolis North Loop neighborhood cocktail bar, is getting ready to open its doors to the public.
The North Loop Neighborhood Association said the 119 Washington Ave. N. location, formally home to Haute Dish, will open at the end of October.
Public Domain will feature made-to-order drinks, but without a menu to order from. Patrons will describe what they are in the mood for and mixologists will take it from there.
In addition to Public Domain, an "elevated dive bar" named Neon Tiger will open in the back of the 122-year-old building. The back bar will feature its own separate entry and is expected to open in early November.
Both are owned by Stefan Van Voorst, who is the founder of the non-profit One2One, as well as an artist and musician. Van Voorst got his start in the mixology business during his time spent in New York, the Star Tribune reports.
Both bars will feature Caribbean-inspired small plates from chef Nettie Colón, who was born in New York City and raised in Puerto Rico, according to her website.
The smaller menu will feature dishes with marinated pork, grilled shrimp, portuguese linguica sausage, and sides like fritters, potatoes canarias, and spicy callaloo greens.
