Don Raul, the new restaurant from the team behind Cafe Ena, La Fresca and Rincon 38, opened its doors Friday evening.
The intimate restaurant can be found at Xerxes Avenue South and 50th Street, opposite popular secondhand curiosity store Hunt & Gather.
It's the latest culinary creation of owner Hector Ruiz and executive chef Gustavo Romero, adding to their three existing restaurants in south Minneapolis.
Speaking with the Southwest Journal in December, Romero said that the restaurant will have 38 covers inside, plus 32 in the summer when the patio opens.
You can check out the menu here, with Don Raul offering fine-dining versions of Mexican staples, as well as south-of-the-border twists on American menu favorites such as pork medallions, rack of lamb, and duck breast.
Don Raul is opening in what was formerly the alteration business Sew What, and its opening means a return for dining at the corner of 50th and Xerxes, a haven for antique stores.
The intersection hasn't had a restaurant since Michelangelo's Pizza closed.
