'No respect': MN lawmaker shows up to debate in pirate costume
A Republican state lawmaker is under fire from his Democratic colleagues for showing up to a meeting in what appears to be a pirate costume.
Specifically, a Captain Jack Sparrow (of "Pirates in the Caribbean" fame, in case you're not familiar) headpiece.
On Sunday, state House Majority Whip Kaohly Vang Her (DFL-St. Paul) posted a screenshot of the meeting on Twitter, identifying "Captain Jack" as Rep. Joe McDonald, a Republican from Delano.
Her says her "GOP colleagues have no respect for the work," adding that the representatives were on the video call to debate a "Transportation Omnibus Bill."
State Sen. Patricia Torres Ray retweeted the photo, saying McDonald "is just making a joke of his job" and that the people of his district "deserve more respect."
It's not clear why McDonald donned the wig for the meeting, or if it was meant as a political statement, but Bring Me The News has reached out to his office for comment.
