Oh jeez, Margie! The trailer for the Fargo TV series is out

As Jerry Lundegaard might say, "You're darned tootin'!"

The television series based on the classic 1996 film by Joel and Ethan Coen is scheduled to debut on the FX network on April 15. With the date drawing nearer, the network has now released a full-length trailer for the show, in addition to short teasers that were already circulating.

The critical reaction sounds cautiously optimistic. The Los Angeles Times notes that while the cast has changed, there's much that's familiar. A Midwestern rube is caught up with dark characters ... plenty of shots of frozen vistas ... and exaggerated Minnesota accents.

Time magazine says the show serves as a sequel that picks up the morning after the series of killings depicted in the film. St. Louis Park natives Joel and Ethan Coen, who won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for the movie, are executive producers of the TV show and Time describes them as hands-on.

The series consists of just ten episodes. The cast features Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, and Allison Tolman. Freeman and Thornton, Time says, shed their respective British and Southern accents in favor of a Minnesota sound.

The English accent may be missing, but the show will be televised in the U.K. A story in The Guardian highlighted the release of the trailer and called Fargo one of the Coen brothers' best movies, adding: "You get the sense that those flat, freezing plains hold a lot more stories besides, and while the Coens' sense of minimalism gave the film much of its bleakness and laughs, a TV series set in the world of Fargo is a wonderful opportunity to further flesh its characters out."

While much of the movie was set in Brainerd, the television series is set in Bemidji. The Bemidji Pioneer  reported this month that actor Bob Odenkirk of Breaking Bad fame is among those who don a faux Bemidji police uniform. Filming of the show, however, was done in Calgary, the Pioneer says.
