Opportunistic Science Museum seeks to cash in on 'Stranger Things' again
After unexpectedly cashing in during Season 2 of Stranger Things, the Science Museum of Minnesota is hoping lightning strikes twice when Season 3 comes out.
The St. Paul museum sold tens of thousands of purple Brontosaurus hoodies after an '80s version of the apparel was sported by Dustin in the Netflix show.
And with the third season due to debut on Netflix on July 3, the Science Museum has released a new suite of dino-related apparel to coincide with the launch.
The new gear features either a Tyrannosaurus Rex or a Triceratops, and have gone on sale on Monday at the Science Museum's online store.
The look and the style of the clothing "harkens back to the early '80s," but all are inspired by the "Thunder Lizard" hoodie that featured in Stranger Things.
The Science Museum says prices range from $15 to $45, with clothing available in adult and children's sizes.
In total, The Science Museum has sold more than 40,000 units of its Brontosaurus-branded apparel since late 2017, noting that the "wave of popularity was unexpected, but very welcome."
The proceeds were used to support the museum's education outreach programs, with the takings from the latest line of clothing being similarly used to further its educational mission.
