After the coronavirus brought a premature end to its summer season, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is looking ahead with the announcement of its 2020-21 Broadway at the Ordway season.
The St. Paul venue has revealed five productions for its upcoming season, which will start in December.
The Ordway's five-show Broadway season kicks off on December 1 – later than usual because of the COVID-19 outbreak – with a holiday production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
This will be followed by stage versions of acclaimed movies An Officer and a Gentleman, and Waitress, followed by new musical, Triangle, and a Broadway classic, Rent.
It comes with there still being uncertainty over when the events industry will be able to resume, and when it does whether there will be social distancing measures in place, such as one that limits audience size.
“The safety of our guests, artists, and employees is a priority and we will open the theater only when it is safe to do so," said Ordway CEO Jamie Grant. "The holiday musical at the Ordway has become a tradition for many of our audience members; we’re sincerely hoping we can safely reunite with our guests for a truly spectacular holiday production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast."
New features for the 2020-21 season include the Ordway Backstage pass for subscribers who will get "access to artistic conversations and behind-the-scenes content," including joining Kaats "for events that look into the creative process behind producing musical theater."
New subscribers will also get discounts on pre-show drinks at Ordway bars, as well as benefits all subscribers can access including 20 percent off priority seating.
Subscriptions for the 5-show package start at $202, which you can get from Ordway.org or by calling 651-224-4222.
