Parents looking for ways to keep their kids occupied this winter should check out the new attraction and store opening at the Ridgedale Mall thus week.
The Children's Playseum, which was launched in 2009 in Maryland by Minnesota native Gina Seebachan, will open its first Minnesota location this Friday on the upper level of JC Penney Lane at the Minnetonka mall.
It's a toy store and book shop, but also so much more, with the retailer saying it'll comprise a "kid-sized city that caters to imaginations big and small."
Young visitors will be given the chance to explore 20 distinctively-themed play areas, which includes a dress-up theater, playing doctors in a hospital room, and making pizza in an Italian restaurant.
There are Minnesota-specific theme rooms too, including an "Up North" outdoor woodland play area, a Scandinavian cafe, and an winter scene featuring snowball.
"The Playseum is designed to engage the five senses of both children and adults, and give them a place to connect with one another through hands-on play and memorable activities, such as our Soap and Science Bars, Art Shop and Bake Shop," Seebachan said in a press release.
The attraction/store will open for the first time on Friday between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m., when there is free admission all day.
There will also be deals on admission, which normally costs $9 per person, this coming weekend, as well as over the Thanksgiving period when it will give free admission for people who donate packs of diapers or clean socks.
The Playseum's Grand Opening will be held on Black Friday, featuring balloons, face painting, free bagels, and cookie and cupcake decorating.
Ridgedale Center Senior General Manager Joan Suko said: "The Playseum is unlike any other children’s play concept in the Twin Cities. We’re so happy to offer this unique experience at Ridgedale."
