Premiere date set for Jessica Lange's next 'American Horror Story'

Minnesota-born acting legend Jessica Lange will be opening up another chapter of "American Horror Story" on FX Oct. 9, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Officially titled "American Horror Story: Coven," the anthology series once again stars the Cloquet native and former Stillwater resident in a pivotal role.

The premiere date was revealed in a 21-second teaser spot released by FX on YouTube this week.

According to THR, the story tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. The show is set more than 300 years after the turbulent days of the Salem Witch Trials, and centers on those who managed to escape and who now face extinction.

Lange's character, Fiona, is a long-absent supreme witch who is determined to protect the coven -- which is now hidden in New Orleans -- and willing to decimate anyone who gets in her way.

"Coven" introduces Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett to the anthology series, and also stars "American Horror Story" veterans Denis O'Hare, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe and Alexandra Breckenridge.

Guest slots have not been announced, but the star of the first "American Horror Story," Dylan McDermott, told me in an interview earlier this year that he's more than game to return after playing a small, but pivotal guest role in "Asylum."

Like the previous two seasons, "Coven" will span 13 episodes and end in January.

The premiere comes a little over two weeks after the 65th annual Emmy Awards, where Lange is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for "American Horror Story: Asylum."

In "Asylum," Lange plays Sister Jude an overbearing nun in an insane asylum who eventually becomes a patient there herself.

Deadline Hollywood talked with Lange on Wednesday about the effects of the role.

Lange, 64, also earned an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie category at the 2012 Emmys for the first season of the show, simply titled, "American Horror Story."

"Asylum" leads all other Emmy competitors with 17 total nominations.

Lange also recently announced that she'll return to Broadway sometime in the next year and a half to star in Eugene O'Neill's classic play in "A Long Day's Journey Into Night," reports.
