Prince opens London tour with living room gig

Forget about the O2 Arena: The hot spot in London for music Tuesday night was a living room on the east side, which featured a mini-performance by Prince.

The Associated Press says the Minnesota music marvel and his band, 3rdEyeGirl, kicked off a slew of yet-to-be announced gigs in London by playing the home of British soul singer Lianne La Havas.

According to Spin magazine, La Havas met Prince last year when she was touring the U.S. and jokingly asked the Purple One to perform in her living room – and he accepted.

Wednesday's acoustic, two-song show in front of La Havas' fireplace included Prince's new single "PretzelBodyLogic," which he debuted during his "New Girl" appearance on Fox Super Bowl Sunday.

The BBC says about 10 people – three journalists and La Havas' housemates – attended the gig.

The Star Tribune says the journalists also asked Prince about his recent lawsuit against fans over copyright infringement claims, to which he responded, "Nobody sues fans. It's just a poor way to phrase it. A bootlegger is a bootlegger, a scalper is a scalper. They know what time it is. Just sharing music with each other – that's cool. It's the selling that becomes the problem."

Details of Prince's London tour, which is in support of his forthcoming album, "Plectrum Electrum," are scarce. Prince only said, "We'll work our way up, if people like us, to bigger venues."

The BBC says Prince followed up the living room gig with a late-night show at Camden's Electric Ballroom, which he billed as a "sound check."

Wherever Prince plays in London, he only plans on charging concert-goers $10 a ticket, the BBC says.

Prince last played London in 2007, where he reportedly sold out the O2 Arena 20 times.
