Prince releases brand new song, will co-headline a Tidal charity concert

Prince is once again doing a show for Tidal – and proceeds from ticket sales will go to nonprofits.

The Minnesota native is co-headlining the Tidal X: 10/20 show with Jay-Z (Tidal's owner) and Beyoncé. The show is on Oct. 20 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Usher, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj are also slated to perform, along with a handful of other popular artists.

The site says 100 percent of ticket proceeds from the inaugural event will go toward nonprofits focused on advancing positive community relations and "effecting systemic change."

Tidal subscribers had access to a pre-sale, and those sold out. General public can purchase them starting at 11 a.m. Friday, with prices from $74-$244. It'll also be live-streamed on and the Tidal app.

Prince debuts new single

So what else has Prince been up to?

Earlier this week he released a new single on Tidal called "FREE URSELF," Vibe reports. The new tune is also available on iTunes, but is not on his latest album,"HitNRun," which was released to the public Sept. 15 to varying reviews.

Then Wednesday morning, he called in to the "Today" show to chat with the hosts.

The Tidal charity show news came around the same time Jay-Z announced Tidal had hit 1 million paid subscribers. (That's at $9.99 a month for full access, or $19.99 a month for the same full access but with "high-fidelity sound," the site says.)

For comparison, Spotify says it has more than 75 million active users (though only 20 million are paying subscribers).

Rdio doesn’t have updated numbers on its site, but last year, it was thought Rdio had around 500,000 paid subscribers in the U.S., Billboard reported. In May, the service announced a new $3.99 a month subscription plan, the cheapest subscription option around, according to the company. It’s also expanding into Europe.
