Prince the presenter steals show at Grammys

While Minnesota music legend Prince didn't perform, he still provided for one of the most memorable moments at the 55th annual Grammy Awards Sunday night in Los Angeles.

MSN declared in a headline that "Prince, in sunglasses, wins Grammys by just walking onstage."

The electrifying moment happened when the 54-year-old musical dynamo presented the Record of the Year Grammy to Gotye (aka Wouter De Backer) and his collaborator, Kimbra. MSN said the two "were positively shaking" when they came onstage to accept their award for the song, "Somebody That I Used to Know."

Perhaps one of the reasons for the reaction was a positive endorsement of the tune from Prince, who said, "I love this song" as he read the name of winner, reports the Pioneer Press. Gotye in turn thanked the Purple One during his acceptance speech as an inspiration.

In its review of the Grammys, the Pioneer Press said Prince, as well as performer Justin Timberlake, were the ones who stole the show.

Prince's appearance comes a few weeks after he dazzled hometown fans with sold-out "open rehearsal" performances at the Dakota Jazz Club.

Fans will get another awards show glimpse of Prince in a few months, when he is scheduled to appear on the Billboard Music Awards May 19 on ABC. The musician was tapped by Billboard for an Icon Music Award by organizers, and he is expected to perform on the show as well.

Prince wasn't the only Minnesota artist at the Grammys Sunday. The Okee Dokee Brothers won Best Children's Music Album for their self-produced CD "Can You Canoe?"

The locked-out musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra, however, fell short in their bid for Best Orchestral Recording, losing to the San Francisco Symphony.
