Prince throws Paisley Park party for journalists, but doesn't perform

Very little Prince music was played at Paisley Park Saturday night, despite the famed musician being in the building.

The Purple One opened up his Paisley Park Studio in Chanhassen for journalists who were in town for the National Association of Black Journalists (NAJB) annual convention, which was held in Minneapolis this past week.

Prince spoke to the crowd briefly before DJ Kiss played a few tracks from his upcoming album "HitNRun," which Prince says will be released on Jay Z's streaming service Tidal on Sept. 7.

The Star Tribune described Prince's new songs as "very dense and mechanical, with lots of intriguing electronic noises," noting they were "less organic sounding" than the artist's previous album, "PlectrumElectrum."

Many journalists who tweeted they attended Saturday night's dance party said it was fun, but others were disappointed they didn't get to see the Purple One perform live.

Prince told the crowd that his band 3rdEyeGirl was on vacation for August and he would play "for real" the next time they come to the studio, the Star Tribune says.
