Report: Prince to appear on post-Super Bowl episode of 'New Girl'

Prince is going to try something new in February, and it's going to happen right after what is traditionally the most-watched television event of the year, E! online reports.

A source tells the entertainment news website that the Minnesota music legend will make his network sitcom debut on the FOX comedy series "New Girl."

The episode is scheduled to air after the Super Bowl on Feb. 2.

E! says that Prince will play himself on the show, and he'll interfere with the coupling of the characters Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson).

E! reached out to FOX representatives about the Prince appearance, but received no comment.

Word of the Prince cameo was first reported on the funk music news website Dr. Funkenberry.

A source told Dr. Funkenberry that the "New Girl" appearance was Prince's idea.

"Prince actually reached out to the show," the source told Dr. Funkenberry. "He is a big fan and wanted to do it. We were blown away and agreed immediately."

The site suggested Prince may be joined by some other big names on the episode.

"The premise for the show is to be centered around his notorious star-studded house parties where he performs, so you might be seeing even more stars on this show," Dr. Funkenberry said.
